“Peace
Voter 2004” to give electoral punch to peace movement.
Washington
DC—As part of a campaign to educate and reach out to
voters on critical foreign policy issues facing the nation, on November
5th, Peace Action is launching “Peace Voter 2004.”
Today, Peace Action
released its Voter Guide on Foreign Policy for the presidential primaries.
The voter guide informs the public to the presidential candidates’
positions on seven foreign policy issues ranging from the development
of new nuclear weapons, to human rights, to “preemptive”
war, to federal spending. The voter guides will be distributed throughout
the nation.
“Americans, in ever
increasing numbers, have come to recognize that foreign policy is directly
impacting their everyday lives. Polls show Americans believe that our
government’s current way of interacting with the rest of the world
does not reflect their values. Peace Action is giving Americans the
tools they need hold politicians accountable and to cast an informed
vote on foreign policy issues,” said Kevin Martin Executive Director
of Peace Action.

To further inform
the public to the candidates’ foreign policy positions, Peace
Action has published extensive information about the candidates’
stances on its website. Visitors to the site will be able
to register to vote online, and download resources to organize on foreign
policy issues in their own communities.
“A foreign policy which
relies on unilateralism, violence and the un-warranted sacrifice of
our military, instead of diplomacy, is an utter failure. Rather than
make America safer, our current policy has given a boost to radicalism
and instability, shipped our tax dollars overseas and left the consensus
for international cooperation, as the solution to taming international
terror in tatters. Today we begin down the path that will lead to a
New Foreign Policy based on core democratic values that Americans can
be proud of,” concluded Martin.
Peace Action,
(the merger of Sane and The Nuclear Freeze) is the United States’
largest peace and disarmament organization.
