In the pursuit of a more peaceful Federal budget
Peace Action has been a leader among those organizations calling
for better diplomatic ties with Iran. Currently, our tax dollars
are spent on veiled attempts at regime change, aggressive missile
defense in Iran’s northern boarders and Navy aircraft carriers
stationed off the Iranian coast.
We are spending our precious resources and diplomatic credit on
warmongering when we could be leading the way for a more peaceful
future. Funding social, diplomatic, and scientific exchanges between
our two countries is the most direct route. If the U.S. engages
Iran in a real diplomatic way that could be a major U.S. ally in
negotiations with Iraq and other regional powers. One step in this
process is to recall economic sanctions to promote economic interdependence
and stimulate both our economies.
The U.S. and Iran have an obligation as
major global powers to work together on issues of non-proliferation
and global peace. If you agree please write your Representatives
and ask them to sign onto legislation introduced by Rep. Bill Wayne
(R-MD). HCon Res 321 is a bipartisan bill calling for a comprehensive
diplomatic effort by the US, Iraq, and Iraq's neighbors to assist
in bringing about political reconciliation and stabilization. You
can also sign our petition against war with Iran at the Peace Action
website.
