Looking Ahead for Peace

The occupation of Iraq and its effect on our economy and international relations, our relationship with Iran and the role of US foreign policy in general, will be the most urgent issues political candidates are asked to address in the 2008 elections.

And Peace Action will be working to make sure the voice for peace is loud and clear.

Over 70% of Americans already oppose the continued occupation of Iraq and aggression towards Iran.

Our challenge now is to translate that public opinion into political action and influence. The upcoming elections in 2008 will give us the best opportunity to do that in the past eight years.

The candidates for races in 2008 have nearly all been announced and we're starting to build the foundation we need for success now.

Next week Peace Action Education Fund holds its national organizers meeting where we will develop strategy, assess resources, plan messaging, and coordinate our 2008 Peace Voter strategy to ensure Peace Action makes an impact again this year.

In 2006 Peace Action Education Fund's grassroots network distributed hundreds of thousands of Peace Voter guides in key Congressional districts. Since the 2006 elections our network has kept pressure on Congress to end the war in Iraq, engaged in citizen diplomacy to deescalate tensions with Iran and scored a major victory when both houses of Congress voted to cut funding for new nuclear weapons.

Together, we can build on the successes of 2006 and with your help we will see the change we want.
