March 19th - Make War Bad for Business

March 19, 2008: the 5th anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, the beginning of the 6th year of war and occupation, the 6th year of senseless death and massive destruction.

Peace Action is calling for and supporting a set of activities on and around the 5th anniversary that will manifest the intensifying opposition to the war and help strengthen our movement. We invite you to work with us to ensure the success of these actions.

KANSAS
March 12-19 week-long activities, sponsored by Kansas City Iraq Task Force which includes

PeaceWorks Kansas City:  Saturday, March 15 Community Festival of Peace at University of Missouri - Kansas City quad, featuring speakers, music and organizational booths.  During the week there will be some lobbying of local legislators' offices, a showing of documentaries, and the weekly vigil on 3-16-08 at 4 p.m. at JC Nichols Fountain, 47th and Main.

Wednesday, March 19 at 7 p.m. will be a candlelight vigil at JC Nichols Fountain. Displays of the Cost of War banners and the Eyes Wide Open boots will be at area churches.

MAINE

Peace Action Maine
A Rally to End the War Now
Not One More Death Not One More Dollar


16 Maine Counties, in addition to major events in Bangor and Portland,
will be holding coordinated actions throughout the state on Saturday,
March 15th commemorating the start of the war in Iraq, to support the
Iraqi Vets for Peace action in Washington, and to demand that Not One
More Death and Not One More Dollar be expended in this failed policy
which has our young people being killed or maimed and is bankrupting our
nation. From Every Village Green, the organizational model, has begun
personally contacting hundreds of thousands of Mainers to invite them to
participate in an action in Bangor, Portland or their county. All
Mainers are being asked to invite their friends, neighbors, and
relatives to join them in these efforts.

NEW HAMPSHIRE

Five Years Too Many March and Demonstration.  We will assemble in the parking lot at 6 Loudon Road at 1:00 and march at 1:30 to a Peace Rally at the State House at 2:30.  We are calling for the US to leave Iraq NOW; No military strikes on Iran and Pakistan; and Funding for Human needs at home and abroad.  Endorsed by American Friends Service Committee -NH, New Hampshire Peace Action, the NH UCC Peace with Justice Task Force, Seacoast Peace Response, Code Pink - NH, Pace e Bene Education Service, the Plymouth's Common People's Peace Vigil, and the Unitarian Universalist Action Network of New Hampshire.

PEACE ACTION OF STATEN ISLAND

Peace Action of Staten Island is convening an organizing meeting with representatives of several other organizations on Staten Island to brainstorm about how best to mark the Fifth Anniversary of the Iraq War. That meeting will take place on Monday, February 25th.

WHAT: A civil disobedience event and a 24 hour/ 40 day fast(to coincide with Lent) going on in front of the Cathedral downtown. Individuals are camped out in 24 hour shifts (in a tent) in front of the church.

IRAQ WAR MEMORIAL MARCH and PEACE FORUM
Central Ohio Peace Network (COPN) will host a forum will begin at 6:30p.m. and will feature presentations and discussions about the peace movement and related issues of healthcare, poverty, jobs and economic justice.
