"The House of War: The Pentagon and the Disastrous Rise of American Power"
James Carrol for a panel discussion Into Iraq ...and Out? How the Past Informs Our Future. Has the U.S. become mired in a war without end? How did we get here – and can we get out? Peace Action will celebrate Women Peace Makers like Cindy Sheehan, Yoko Ono, and Col. Ann Wright. The distinguished William Sloane Coffin Jr. Peacemaker Award will be given to Ms. Cora Weiss, President, Hague Appeal for Peace. Phil Donahue hosts the evening and John Mellencamp is booked among the entertainers. It is right to begin the celebration in New York where Peace Action’s predecessor SANE first met in 1957 and developed the advertisement that appeard in the New York Times, November 15th 1957, and launched a surge of anti-nuclear activity.

All this takes place in The Alhambra which has its own rich history (it hosted artists Bessie Smith, Jelly Roll Morton and Billie Holiday). It is located at 2116 Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Blvd., conveniently close to subway, bus, rail, and parking facilities. Doors open at 5:30 pm, wine buffet from 6 to 7 pm, and the program is from 7 to 8:30 pm. Tickets are still available by contacting Seth Long.

Little Theatre, just as the release of the film, made from Solomon’s book, “War Made Easy: How Presidents and Pundits Keep Spinning Us to Death”, narrated by the actorSean Penn will be playing around the country and Canada early this fall. Please join New Hampshire Peace Action on Friday, November 2, 2007 at the Capitol Center for the Arts to celebrate New Hampshire Peace Action's 25th Anniversary and the 50th anniversary of our parent organization Peace Action. We will honor Don Booth for his decades of work for the cause of peace. Activist and author Phyllis Bennis will speak on US Policy in the Middle East. Dinner and complimentary wine and cash bar will be provided by the Common Man restaurant.

Join U.S. Representative Barbara Lee (D-CA) in a celebration of Peace Action's 50th anniversary (dating to the founding of The National Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy, SANE, in 1957) and our anthology Peace Action: Past, Present and Future. The reception will be from 6-8 PM, in the Rayburn House Office Building, room B-354. The evening will include free refreshments (delicious food, beer, wine and soft drinks), brief remarks and a book-signing with authors who contributed to Peace Action: Past, Present and Future including Rep. Lee, Marcus Raskin, Sandy Gottlieb and Kevin Martin.
