For over 7 years the U.S. government
has bombarded the Afghan people with nightly bombings and a military
state. We cannot stop terrorism with terrorism. The only solution
for Afghanistan is a diplomatic one. We need to step up our humanitarian
efforts and invest in the peaceful future of this important country.

our Petition
President Obama announced his 10 year plan
for Afghanistan. It includes an additional 21,000 U.S. military
forces deployed in Iraq and diplomatic engagement of Pakistan. He
is still trying to force political and social change through the
Pentagon.
We have a better plan: focus on diplomatic
cooperation and humanitarian aid, mitigate civilian causalities
by scaling back military force. The United Nations, U.S.
and British generals, peace groups, and 19 members of Congress agree:
the war in Afghanistan cannot be won militarily and success
is only possible through political means including dialogue between
all relevant parties.

Get on the Right Side of History
Peace Action organized 17 national organizations to request our representatives sign on to a letter to the President asking him to reconsider the escalation of 17,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan. Many of the people who authorize the occupation of Iraq have a chance to be on the right side of history by signing onto this letter from Representative Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH 10th), Representative Ron E. Paul (R-TX 14th), and other bi-partisan Congressional signers.

We Voted for Change - Not More of the Same
We have seen the disastrous consequences of heading into war without a plan in Iraq. We are still mourning American and Iraqi lives lost, and struggling to rehabilitate our economy while spending billions of dollars on war.
